A 440Hz sine wave, reduced in bit depth to 2 bits (with a simple uniform dither applied), then scaled back up to an 8-bit range for acceptable playback, to demonstrate how the signal remains undistorted by the process (only independent noise is added). The resulting unsigned 8-bit file has just 4 distinct sample values: 0x00, 0x40, 0x80 and 0xc0 directly corresponding to the 2-bit sample values 0, 1, 2, and 3.
